The 1964 fair, held from July 14 to July 19, had a “Diamond Jubilee of Country” theme and featured the usual top-notch lineup of entertainment. There was a Diamond Jubilee variety show in honor of Orange County’s seventy-fifth-anniversary celebration, and agriculture exhibits were a major thrust of this fair. There was also an “America the Beautiful” flower-themed show by the legendary floral designer Harry Macres.

Biggest Orange County Fair in history swings into action at the fairgrounds last Tuesday for a six-day run through Sunday, July 19, in a gala county “Diamond Jubilee celebration.” Cool ocean breezes blow at the Costa Mesa fairgrounds to make this event an enjoyable fun-packed family holiday. Southland counties and communities of the area display assets in elaborate feature exhibit. Commercial displays pack the big New Products Pavilion. Other exhibit departments include agriculture, horticulture, home economics, hobbies, poultry, rabbits, bees and honey, industrial education, art and photo shows, and a mineral and lapidary show. The spectacular flower show, one of the west’s largest, spotlights this year’s “America the Beautiful” theme in elaborate displays. Rare blooms from around the world and almost every state in the nation have been brought in especially for this show by producer Harry Macres, California’s “Mr. Flower Show.” Popular professional entertainers take the amphitheater stage for the “Diamond Jubilee Varieties” in matinee and evening shows at 2 and 8 p.m. daily.
